T.I. and Cricket Wireless teamed up with Atlanta Music Project to give seven local teen orchestral musicians an experience of a lifetime on a national stage. Several members of the media were invited to witness the rehearsal for the NPR Tiny Desk event and I was happy to be in the room to check it out.

The Atlanta Music Project is an intensive, tuition-free music education program for underserved youth.  It was founded in 2010 and they believe that the pursuit of musical excellence leads to the development of confidence, creativity and ambition, thus sparking positive social change in the individuals an the communities that they serve.

Cricket Wireless is involved because of it’s commitment to Atlanta.  Music is a big part of its customers lives and Cricket wants to create experiences that tie to the brand’s mission of bringing smiles to customers, as music does.

Atlanta violinists: Lailah Carter, 14; Landon Isaiah Wilkins, 16; Nehemiah Wiggins, 16; and Ashley Sierra Gibson, 17, violists: Nyasjah Breshay Brooks, 16; cellist Brent Cameron, 14; and trombonist Corey Lewis Jones, Jr. 16 all went on a trip of a lifetime to Washington, D.C. to perform with global sensation and “King of the South” hip-hop artist and actor T.I. for an NPR Tiny Desk concert. The Director of the project Dante Rameau takes great pride in the work that he does for these kids.  He himself is a bassoonist and works very closely with the teenagers and their parents to make sure they have everything they need to stay motivated.

Here is a short snippet.

I talked briefly to Dawn Benton, Head of Communications for Cricket Wireless and she wants to make sure that Cricket Wireless will stay in touch and follow up with their first #CricketCares project.

T.I. is not only a rapper and actor, he is also a philanthropist.  He worked with Cricket Wireless to bring this opportunity for the students. They will be encouraged to show their range, by not just being able to play traditional classical music, but by using their instruments to bring new life to the sound of hip hop.

This entire collaboration is heartwarming and shows us all what is possible when brands, celebrities and non profits come together to create opportunity.

Thank you to Cricket Wireless for inviting TheSistahCafe.com to witness this positive community event.
