I attended Taste of Conyers as a member of Atlanta Food & Lifestyle Blogger Society. All opinions are my own.
The city of Olde Town Conyers had their annual Taste of Conyers Food event recently. This year they asked members of Atlanta Food & Lifestyle Blogger Society to be Judges for Taste of Conyers Food Festival & Car Show. As involved as I am in the Atlanta foodie world I have never actually been an official judge of a food contest, so I jumped at the chance. I have been to many tastings, and tasters choice contests, but never an OFFICIAL Judge. I knew that this was going to be a good time.

A Taste of Conyers
When I arrived at Olde Town Conyers Welcome Center & Train Depot I was immediately greeted by their super friendly staff, Sandy, Jennifer, Terri and Mitsi. I was joined by ATLFLBS President, Toby Bloomberg (@DivaFoodies) and fellow ATLFBS member Rochelle Wharton aka (@CulinaryVeg) Once everyone arrived they informed us that 22 of the 40 participating restaurants would be competing to win bragging rights and the coveted TOC Winners Plaque. There were four categories that we had to consider:
Best Appetizer
Best Entree
Best Dessert
Best Presentation
Each participating restaurant decided beforehand which category they wanted to be judged on. Once we got all of the preliminary information off we went for some tasting and judging. We were armed with our judges badges, our pens and clipboards and led by our guide City of Conyers, Event Coordinator, Sandy Fowler.
The first place that really stood out for me as Best Entree was Gigi’s Place. They were the first food booth that we stopped at and they presented us with a full plate of Ribs, Jerk Chicken, Collard Greens, Macaroni & Cheese and cornbread. I paid immediate attention to the flavoring of the Greens. They were melt in your mouth delicious.
The ribs and jerk chicken were also perfectly seasoned and oh so tasty.
I thought to myself if the rest of the “bites” were this big I am gonna be full real soon! But they weren’t. We tasted bites of every type, taste and size. It was a tough competition but I made it through like a champ!
After all that tasting and all that food it was finally time to deliberate. Lucky for us Sandy took us back to the air conditioned Welcome Center which is housed within the old Train Depot. When all was said and done all of the judges made accurate and fair decision on who the winners were.

For Best Appetizer: UGA Ext Service Rainbow Wraps (Veggie Wraps)
Best Entree: Gigi’s Place Inc. (Chicken, Ribs, Greens, Mac Cheese, Cornbread)
Best Dessert: Coaxum’s Low Country Cuisine (Bread Pudding)
Best Booth Presentation: The Bistro Conyers
We didn’t stick around long to watch the winners receive their award because my sister and I were eager to get to the Car Show and I wanted to see the Live Band. My sister loves old cars so she was in heaven.
This Ford F350 was a personal favorite of mine.

After we got done checking out all of the dope rides we doubled back to get some battered fried fish from The Celtic Tavern (To Go) and then we swung by the Italian ice truck. I sat down for a minute to enjoy the days festivities.
There was really so much to see and do at Taste of Conyers. It was a beautiful mix of different cultures and foods. This was a very family-friendly event and there was something for everybody including Jumpy Houses for the kids. Everyone was so friendly and Olde Towne Conyers is so quaint. I enjoyed myself and cannot wait to return next year for more food & fun with the folks of Conyers, Ga.
