I’ve only been in the designer handbag game for a few years. I cut my teeth on outlet Coach bags and now lean more towards Michael Kors as my fav designer. What I now know about myself is what I need in a handbag besides fashion.
Fashion wise I am not a trend setter, but I am also not a trend follower. In other words my fashion sense is based on whatever pleases my eye and makes me feel good. That being said, here are some of the features that I am into when it comes to handbags and why I prefer Michael Kors bags (specifically Astor style) over any other.
Price. Price. Price.
I like that I can always find a nice MK Bag for under $300.00 (I don’t care one bit if its off season). If I can find an Astor buried deep on a T.J. Maxx discount rack, I’m a happy camper
I prefer larger bags
As a writer/blogger I always have my iPad and an additional camera with me. Those 2 items alone although compact, require a certain amount of space. I need a bag that will provide that space. I am a big fan of the over-sized satchels, totes and hobos. No clutches or tiny purses for me. The build of the Astor is simply amazing. It holds a lot. The leather is sturdy but always high fashion.
I love silver accessories on a bag
Be it a buckle, or chain or rivet. I just love silver/chrome hardware on a bag. Gold? Not so much. I am down with brass. Look at the affects that those hardcore chains and rivets have on the Astor. Especially the black, isn’t it lovely?
I love genuine leather bags
Before I got into designer bags I didn’t realize that there was a difference between the real deal leather bags and the fake ones. Some of the fake ones look great but in a year they will be cracked and useless. The difference is in the durability, the feel, the smell and the lifespan. Real leather bags just feel good and they last longer, thereby saving you money. I’d rather pay good money for a bag that will last a lifetime, then paying pennies for a cheap piece of crap that I will be replacing in a few months.
Versatility
I love a bag that can be carried by the handle, on the crook of the arm and off the shoulder. The Astor goes well with jeans or with a business suit.
I am slowly building my collection and right now I only have quote a few MK bags as well as others.. I am a Huge Huge fan of the Michael Kors Astor style bags and you can find me digging around in some of the best T.J. Maxx’s in Atlanta looking for one. If I could get one in every style and color I would.
Here is me rocking my favorite Large Luggage Astor at an event here in Atlanta
