I did something that I said that I’d never do. Yes, I broke down and got my daughter a dog. I have nothing against dogs but was just never a pet person. I never desired to deal with the care or maintenance of a pet. Not with 4 kids in the house, no way. As a reward to my daughter for excelling in school and fitness in the summer we offered her a choice between a puppy or a cell phone. We didn’t really have a preference for the type of dog that we would get. Only thing that we wanted was something cute, small and house trained. A friend of the family just happened to have a 14 month old Shih-Tzu puppy that needed a new home. The previous owner worked a lot and did not have much time to tend to a pooch. Lucky for us this dog came house trained, current on shots and neutered.
I won’t lie we were intimidated by this picture that we saw prior to purchase. We are simple folks and this dog seemed saditty to us.
But when we laid eyes on her in person it was a done deal! We shook on it and immediately changed her name from St. John Santana to Chloe St. John.
Chloe and my daughter spent most of the Summer bonding and getting to know one another.
Now that school is back in, my daughters pet is my furry little shadow. Here is Chloe in my lap at my desk as I attempt to do my morning blogging.
She even gets mail! Here she is opening a “Welcome to The Family” package from my cousin who is also a dog mommy.
She fits right into our family as though she has always been here and we love her. It’s weird how these hairy creatures get into your heart. She is like a super cute stuffed animal with a heartbeat. I guess I’m a doggy mom now.
Over all I hope that having this pet will help my daughter to be more responsible and also teach her to have compassion for all of God’s creatures.
