Back in February 2013, my daughter and I attended a Fro Fashion Week sanctioned, natural hair function for kids and Jess McGuinty of Jessicurl was there as a participant and sponsor. In a round table discussion, I shared some of the trials and tribulations that my daughter had been going through at school regarding her natural hair. Namely, that she was being teased at school for NOT wearing weave and for NOT straightening her hair. I noticed that Jess was immediately touched by this story and she showed it by physically embracing my daughter and also telling her that not only was SHE beautiful but that her natural hair was GORGEOUS. It was a really beautiful display of empathy. A couple days later I was very shocked to receive a phone call from Jess herself! She told me that she was so touched by my Little Chick’s story that she wanted to do something about it. She wanted to show those bullies! She went on to ask if my daughter and I would like to be hair models for Jessicurl. Not only that but she wanted to have an individual photo shoot with my daughter as the main focus.

We did not know what to expect on that cold winter evening when we met Jess, her photographer and a few other models in the heart of downtown Atlanta. That night my daughter received personal words of encouragement and praise from the CEO of Jessicurl. A real conversation with a real girl who has gone through the same thing. She even got a milkshake.
The spotlight was pointed at my child and for just a few hours she was on TOP of the world working as a REAL hair model for a major company! Even though you see me in the pic with her, SHE was the star and is currently the ONLY KID/CHILD featured on the Jessicurl website!! TAKE THAT BULLIES!
