Thicker Than Water Star, Jewel Tankard, Talks Family, Marriage & Entrepreneurship

thicker-than-water

I caught up with the matriarch of the Tankard family, Mrs. Jewel Tankard, recently.  She is a wife, mother, millionairess, reality show star and more who you may recognize from Bravo’s reality series Thicker Than Water.   I had a brief conversation with her about everything including family, marriage, entrepreneurship and more. This was a phone interview and Mrs.  Tankard was very pleasant and easy to talk to.

When I asked her what motivates her…

“First of all I have a strong relationship with God” ~Jewel Tankard

Jewel said that she grew up seeing some of the women in her life working hard and suffer.  She wanted to make sure that she could independently support herself and make sure that herself and her children could live the lifestyle they want and never do without. She teaches Financial Literacy & Entrepreneurship for Women through Jewel’s Millionairess Club & Portfolio Education.

She is a wife, mother of five, co-pastor, actress, entrepreneur, author, and friend. Jewel is not only a voice to the kingdom of God, but a voice to the socioeconomic systems of the world. ~JewelTankard.com

I asked her how she finds time to do it all.  Her response was that she has a great team.  Her team assists her with everything including scheduling.  She explained that in order to be successful you MUST have a team and your team should be filled with people who believe in and want to support what you are doing.

The SistahChick:  If you had one piece of advice to give a new entrepreneur what would it be?

Jewel Tankard:  Be diligent.  Get Support.  Prepare for a lot of long hours and hard work.  Your family might not understand this but they will when they become the benefactors of your hard work.

Jewel is now the host of the nationally syndicated “Jewel Tankard Show”  that focuses on lifestyle, beauty, and issues that impact people’s everyday lives.

The SistahChick:  You seem to have an awesome relationship with all of your step children.  They all call you “mom” on the show.  How did you make that happen?

Jewel Tankard:  It took a lot of faith and patience.  My children (she does not refer to them as “step”) all know that I really do love them and that’s the most important thing.

My last question to her was how a strong and independent woman like her manages to also be a submissive wife to her husband.  (She had spoken about this briefly on the episode of Thicker Than Water that featured The Jewel Tankard show.  Her guest was Dr. Heavenly Kimes from Married to Medicine)

She said that at the end of the day she likes to embrace her femininity and be a woman.  She said that she is driven… but not hard.  She likes being a woman and she likes needing her man.  She thinks that more women should let their men know that they need them.  She may be all the things you see but at home she is his wife/girlfriend.

Check Jewel Tankard out on the season 3 finale of Bravo’s Thicker Than Water which airs Sunday.  Check your local listings for times.
