Teaching Our Kids To Rise Above It

For the 1st eleven years of my motherhood experience I did it alone. As the mother of 2 little boys I always feared that they would grow up without a male role model in the home. Having grown up without a father myself, I felt that I was repeating the cycle and I longed for a complete family. I wanted our lives to be different but things happen and there I was unmarried with 2 children. I took notes from my mother and raised my boys the same way my mother raised me, with love & respect. Once I met and married my husband we became a blended family. By combining our families we created a stable home for ALL of our children.  Family is SO important to us. With his sons and my sons together there are 4 boys plus our lovely daughter. For some reason God brought us all together and we respect that so we made it work.  Sure, there were a LOT of ups and downs, but overall we made it through just fine. All of our sons are now grown and they are all in college, working or in the military. Our daughter is thriving in middle school. We were able to rise above the stigma that is attached to having a blended family and successfully raise our children into adulthood (well except for our daughter, but she is on her way!) I hope that this will serve as an example for them as they move throughout their lives. We did our best to teach them about unconditional love and how to treat people with kindness and respect through our love for them and one another.  We have no doubt that will pay it forward as they build their own complete families.

I am so excited about Pine-Sol®” When Life Gets Tough, Women Rise Above It’ Campaign that really exemplifies “family” by celebrating women(backbone). As part of the campaign, Pine-Sol awarded a $25,000 donation to Women Empowered, a nonprofit based in Los Angeles that connects, educates and supports women of all ages and backgrounds,

inspiring them to give back to their communities.

Check out how Pine-Sol surprises deserving women with the gift of clean. The Pine-Sol lady surprises Katherine Dimas and Lakeisha Hall with a cleaning crew to tidy up their homes. These Women Empowered volunteers share their stories of rise and seek to inspire others.
