I spent an amazing afternoon with Photographer Nikki Nickerson at her home studio. This was my first photo shoot ever and I was plenty nervous. I had never done this before and having the opportunity to shoot with Nikki was really a dream come true. As my online audience grows I have found that I needed certain shots for certain things and after talking with Nikki about her services and what she could offer it made sense to utilize her as my photographer. It was a beautiful Spring day and upon entering her studio i immediately took notice of the gorgeous natural sunlight that came in through the windows. I was greeted by Nikki, her assistant and Make up artist Patrice Story. (oh and Gabriel, Nikki’s dog!) I had also never had full make up done so I was glad to have the very patient Patrice to do my make up while answering a barrage of my questions. ( I still don’t quite understand false eyelashes) It was an afternoon full of NEW experiences!
As Patrice expertly “blessed” my face with her make up artist skills we chatted about her expertise and technique. She also talked about her role in my photo shoot which was to give me 2 totally different looks and to keep my face looking fresh throughout.
Once my face was prepared it was time to pick out my individual “looks”. Look #1 would be professional head shots. For this look I chose an Anne Klein Diamond Print shirt dress (Ross) with minimal jewelry (earrings by Peace Images) My natural hair is in a Bantu Knot out style. I really love the contrasting red and white panel in the background.
Look #2 was a fun, summer look. I chose a dress by BCBG Max Azria (TJ Maxx) and shoes by Pink & Pepper (DSW). This time we went outside using Nikki’s beautiful fence and green space as the backdrop.
It was so much fun creating all of the different looks. It was like being a kid again and playing in my mom’s clothes and make up! I love the pics with me outdoors. Below are various looks and outfits. Im rocking my fav Tie Dye (Ross) dress for Look #3 and my hot pink Betsey Johnson wedges (Nordstrom Rack) in one pic. and a Navy/White Adrienne Vittadini (Ross) dress for look #4. Notice the different looks that Patrice was able to give me by changing small things like lip color for each photograph. I tried to switch my natural hair up too.
Now Nikki’s pooch Gabriel aka “Gabey” was not SUPPOSED to be in the pictures, but somehow he ended up in several shots. Trust me I didn’t mind at all! He was sooo sweet! Meet my new puppy boyfriend!
My final shots were my “sexy” shots. I struggle with this as a former tomboy. Not into the slinky, or the silky or the tight. When asked what am I wearing when I feel my sexy? My response: When I am wearing my husband’s shirt. We coupled that feeling with Nikki’s chaise lounge and this is what we got.
It was an incredible experience and I left feeling beautiful and happy. Nikki is super sweet and kind and she did a wonderful job of making a first timer like me feel comfortable. Make Up artist Patrice Story followed suit and even tried to honor my request for LOTS of eyeliner.
