Our Visit To The Good Hair Shop!

The Good Hair Shop

My daughter and I spent a glorious afternoon with Kiyomi Rollins, Stylist & Owner of The Good Hair Shop. The Good Hair Shop is a heat free, natural hair salon here in metro Atlanta.  Their motto is…”here, everybody has good hair!”  This neat little shop is located off of MLK in a bustling business building.  It has ample parking and easy access.    Here you can get, A Big Chop, 2 Strand Twists, Henna Color, Locs and LOTS more.  But this salon does more than just hair.  You can also purchase their wonderful handmade products, clothing, books and there is even an artist co op which offers a wonderful way for new artists to expose their work.

We were very excited to be there.  I had been looking for the perfect person to do my daughter’s natural hair and Kiyomi was my very first choice.  I have never allowed another person to touch The LittleChick’s beautiful tresses before so I was meticulous about choosing the right person.  Being a natural hair aficionado I am very specific about what goes into my baby doll’s hair and on her scalp.  A lot of stylists get irritated when questioned by me about their products, ingredients and processes but not Kiyomi.   From the moment we stepped into her salon she was friendly and welcoming.  During our consultation she talked about her products, she talked about the all natural ingredients of each one and she showed me exactly what would be used on my baby’s hair.

Here are the products that were used:

Honeysuckle Kiss Leave In Conditioner (Pre-Moisturizing & Detangling Treatment)

Cool Mint Shampoo/Body Wash (Gentle Cleansing)

Sweet Honey Loc & Define Pomade (Styling)

So Fresh, So Clean Spray (Styling)

During her combless detangling process, Ms. Rollins took plenty of time talking to me and my daughter about the importance of each technique that she used.  She also noted that I had been taking wonderful care of my daughters hair!! (Yay Me!)  We even took a moment to throw up our “L’s” in support of Lupus Awareness Month, Kiyomi’s daughter and our mutual friend @LupieChick.

Once the detangling and cleansing was complete we moved to another area for styling.  Kiyomi was ready with all sorts of magazines filled with 2  strand twist styles that were appropriate for my tween girl.  After a short discussion we both agreed on a general style and decided to give our stylist creative license to do her thing.

While my daughter was getting her hair twisted/braided, I had an awesome time speaking to Mr. & Mrs. Rollins about life in Atlanta, entrepreneurship and parental responsibility.  Throughout our entire visit The Good Hair Shop had a steady stream of customers who came from all over the metro area to purchase products and to speak with Kiyomi about natural hair.

My daughter was SOOO happy with the final results of her very first natural hair appointment!  She ended up with cornrows zigzagging in the front and beautiful twists to perfectly frame her face.

The LittleChick at The Good Hair Shop

There are no words to express how pleased I was with the level of knowledge and quality of service at The Good Hair Shop.  Kiyomi’s skills and expertise are a God send and her prices are VERY reasonable.  It is nice to know that there is someplace safe that I can take my child to get her hair done from now on.  My babydoll fell in love with this place and the owners and is already to come back for a jazzy new style!  If you are in Atlanta and looking for a REAL natural hair stylist check out The Good Hair Shop, you won’t be disappointed and tell them that The SistahChick sent you!
