When Macy’s Culinary Council puts on a cook off event they do it right! As part of Macy’s National search for their next Great American Grilling Guru they hosted a Sizzle Showdown. I was front row center at their latest event held at Macy’s Lenox Square. There were 6 contestants, 2 rounds and 3 judges. Up for grabs was 10,000 dollars and a trip to New York. The judges were Macy’s Culinary Council Chefs Cat Cora, Marc Forgione and Stephanie Izard. It was a beautiful sunny Spring day in A and it was a perfect day for a cook out. The Macy’s tent sat on the parking lot at Lenox Square Mall and was fully equipped with grills, fans to keep us cool and flat screens for video display. The host was Atlanta’s own Tracye Hutchins from CBS Better Mornings.
The contestants brought their A game with the dishes they created for the 1st round! Lamb Burgers Mediterranean with Balsalmic-glazed Onions, Olive date Relish from finalist Barbara Estabrook. Grilled Duck Sausages with Smoky Bacon Caramel, Spicy Asian Pear Slaw, Sriracha Butter, Thai Basil Aioli & Crushed Peanuts from finalist Erin Evenson. Sizzled Stars and Striped Surf-In-Turf Grill (Chimicherries & Chive-Rosemary Char Mascarpone) from finalist Leah Lyon. Jerk Pork Tenderloin with Jalapeno Cream Corn and Pineapple Salad from finalist John McDavid. Lip Smacking Country Style Ribs from finalist Peggi Tebben. South Seas Salmon with Grilled Paradise Pineapple Chutney from finalist Margee Berry.
Throughout the event we were served various courses that were recipes from the judges. From Cat Cora’s recipe we received Cat’s Slaw and White Cheddar & Scallion Corn Bread. Both were delicious. From Stephanie Izard we received Kalbi Cut Beef Short Ribs with Corn Coblettes and Okra Relish. Yum!
The Honey Crisp Apple Plum Oatmeal Cobbler from Marc Forgione was so good that I ate it before I was able to snap a picture of it!
And the winner!!
We had a great time! It was awesome to get to meet the Chef Judges!
Who is your favorite Iron Chef or Top Chef?!
