I attended 2019 Atlanta Korean Wine Tasting as a member of Atlanta Food & Lifestyle Blogger Society.  All opinions are my own.

It was an incredible evening filled with Korean history and culture at the 2019 Atlanta Korean Wine Tasting.  This event was held at US Foods in Norcross. It was brought to you by a variety of hosts, supporters, organizers and planners including Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp. and Georgia Restaurant Association(GRA). Karen Bremer, President of GRA was there to do the Welcome. Congratulatory remarks were given by Keun Soo Lee, President of KARA.  We also heard from Han Im-Sub, President of Korean Traditional Alcoholic Beverages Export Council.

There were many wines to taste.  Two stood out because of their taste and beautiful bottles.  One was Myeongin Andong Soju Liquor.  The other was Jindo Hongju.

Myeongin Andong Soju Liquor had a super pretty bottle.  The sizes and shapes of the Korean Wine bottles were specifically different and new to me.  I am used to traditional American looking bottles not these gorgeous vessels.

Jindo Hongju (Red Liquor)

There are several ways to drink Jindo Hongju.  We drank it with a little lime soda.   It was poured by none other than the President of the brand, Aeran Kim.  This energetic lady made sure that everyone had plenty to taste!

Jindo is a precious island in Korea. Jindo Hongju (Jichoju) is a name derived from its color and is one of Korea’s folk traditional distillation using rice and wild gromwell roots.

All of the Korean wine that we tasted were made from rice.  Wines that are made with rice are different.  I found that they were stronger yet very smooth almost like a fine whisky.  We found out that the wines have medicinal properties when drank in moderation.  There are other benefits that you don’t find in wines that are made from grapes for instance with Korean Wine there is no bitter taste, no dehydration and most importantly no hangover!

It was a pleasure to meet Sake Sommelier and US Rep. Ike Chi. He talked extensively about Korean World History including politics, geography and food.

I really enjoyed tasting the variety of Korean bites that were served. They all tasted as interesting as they looked.

To close out the evening we were treated to a beautiful live performance from a Korean Dance group.

I learned so much.  This was more than a just wine tasting. It was an education on Korea.  The Korean people take great pride in the production of their wines from the first step to the last all of the servers, hosts and wine producers were very kind at this event and took a lot of time answering all of our questions.

It was great to see the ATLFBS (Atlanta Food & Lifestyle Bloggers) in the house!
