Years ago my husband and I bought a house. It was roomy and the perfect place where we were gonna start our lives and raise our blended family. With what we thought would be 4 boys and a baby on the way it was gonna be a good fit. It had excellent bones and lots of potential. It was also a fixer upper but that didn’t scare us away. The price was right, we were younger and we were gonna make it happen. I had spent hours watching Home MakeOver shows after all and they made it seem so easy. Well… that’s what we thought we would do. We immediately got busy on the interior. We painted, laid new hardwood floors on the lower level, replaced doors, carpets and some windows, and completely renovated all three bathrooms. But the outside of our home needed Jesus. Recently, we finally tackled that job with the help of a contractor and Sherwin Williams paint!
Here is what we had done to the exterior of our home:
Siding replaced
Soffits replaced
Front porch rebuilt
French Doors
Paint
The colors that I chose didn’t sit that well with hubby initially, but he trusted my choices and let me roll with them. I chose the tan color Lanyard for the main color of the house. For the trim I chose Summer White and Black for the shutters. I’ve always wanted a red door so Stolen Kiss was my choice for the door. Let the work begin!
The workers showed up bright and early to start replacing the siding and repairing the soffits. If you don’t know what soffits are its the flat part of your roof that hangs over your windows. It was really fun to watch. I was happy to find out that some of the siding was salvageable and that it did not all have to come down. Cha-ching! A few dollars saved. Which was good because we ran into a few other problems along the way. Once the house was power washed the priming/painting and the porch building began. All of the colors really came together on my home! My original porch was small, old and rickety. The new one is twice the size, brand new and sturdy.
I have watched HGTV a million times and I promise there is nothing like experiencing the anxiety and joy of a REAL renovation. It took about 10 days for the entire job to be completed. We had to go outside of our budget but not much. The end result was a bright and beautiful home that we have always loved. We just love it more now.
I want to thank Mr. Jimmy and the folks over at SCOA Painting and Repairs for dealing with me and my camera in their faces the whole time. Once the weather breaks we will begin landscaping which will be a total DIY project with no help from contractors. Wish us luck!
