Cricket Wireless Gives Scholarships to Atlanta’s Inner City Students

I have been in close contact with Cricket Wireless regarding the Atlanta Music Project (AMP).  I had the pleasure of meeting some of the kids from this program back in July, right before they performed with Atlanta rapper T.I. at NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series.

Recently, Cricket Wireless made a $125,000 donation to AMP.  The gift will go toward giving 100 students full scholarships to participate in the organizations newly launched All Star Youth Orchestra & Choir.

The scholarships will be used specifically to provide instruments, uniforms, transportation, and musical accessories to allow all students in AMP’s All-Star Youth Orchestra & Choir to participate at zero costs to their families. Cricket also plans to showcase the talented students by hosting the Youth Orchestra and Choir at prominent special events.

Our young musicians have worked hard at their craft for many years and have developed powerful transferable skills including flexibility, problem solving, confidence, creativity and how to communicate with their peers.  ~ Dantes Rameau, Co-Founder and Executive Director for the Atlanta Music Project

The news was announced recently at The Gathering Spot. Multi platinum, Grammy Award winning artist, actress and philanthropist and entrepreneur, Monica, was inspired to be a part of the event and support the kids because of her passion for arts and music education.  She was there to talk about the impact and influence that music has had on her life and as an added bonus she wowed them with a LIVE performance of her hit song “Angel of Mine.”

This is great news.  Everyone involved in this project is passionate about the youth of Atlanta.  Getting them involved in this level of orchestral musical training and the way the tie it in with Hip Hop is simply amazing and I am honored to be able to share this fantastic new with you
