3 Places to Go For Food & Wine in Hilton Head Island

hilton-head-island

This year for our wedding anniversary, my husband and I took off to Hilton Head Island for a relaxing weekend on the beach.  The great thing about Hilton Head Island is that you can get there relatively quickly, since its less than 5 hours drive.  Hilton Head Island also boasts beautiful white sand beaches.  Now throw in a little good food & wine and you’ve got yourself a perfect no fuss no muss vacation.

My husband and I love to relax and have a good time.  Eating and enjoying libations is a big part of that.  We also like to get off the beaten path every now and then just to get away from it all.  We have differing tastes so finding spots that we both like is always a plus.  We visited a lot of cute little spots while we were there but 3 places that really stood out us for their good vibes, atmosphere, pricing and service.

3 Places to Go For Food & Wine in Hilton Head Island

The French Bakery

This quaint little bakery was on my list of eateries to visit before we got there.  I adore themed restaurants and French pastries.  The French Bakery serves breakfast and lunch.  It has an in store winery and sells baked goods to go including macaroons, scones, fruit tarts, croissants and more.

I ordered the Peach Strudel French Toast.  Choices for breads were:  Brioche, Cranberry Apricot, Country French, or Honey Whole Wheat.  I chose Honey Whole Wheat for my French Toast.  The Peach Strudel topping was a Home made Peach Glaze, topped with Graham Cracker.  It was hella good!  My husband ordered the Strawberry French Toast.  The Strawberry Glaze was a homemade Strawberry sauce made with Fresh Berries.  Everything including the coffee was delicious.  The waitress was very nice and the service was excellent.

We stopped by the boulangerie/patisserie and purchased macaroons and fruit tarts to take back to the resort.  Each of the fruit tarts were sprinkled with edible gold flakes.

Island Winery

Since this is the only winery in the vicinity, it was only a matter of time before I showed up here.

We selected the Island Wine Experience for Two.  This experience included:

a wine tasting

a private table

a full glass of your favorite wine

a cheese tray

3 bottles of your choice of wines

2 souvenir glasses

I chose wines from each flight category.  For my Whites I chose: Sea Island White and Harvest Sweet Muscadine Wine.  For my Red I chose: Malbec.  For my Low Country Specialty Wines I chose: Margarita Wine, Apple Cinnamon Wine, Elderberry Honey Wine and Southern Passion.  The private table was in the back of the winery where the barrels and equipment are kept.  It was a beautiful backdrop.

My absolute favorites were the Elderberry Honey Wine which is crafted from wildflower honey and flavored with elderberries.  The Southern Passion Wine is a Southern Style Sangria which is a blend of white and reg grapes with Florida Oranges.  My husbands fav was the Apple Cinnamon which is an Apple specialty wine with a slight infusion of cinnamon.

My favorite aunt adores Sweet Muscadine wine so we shipped her a bottle directly from Island Winery.  The process was super simple.  You fill out a form and they do the rest.  My Aunt got her wine about a week later and she was a very happy camper!

CharBar

We had a great time at CharBar. This was our first time.  What attracted us were the albums that they had hanging on the walls.  We could see them from outside.  Once we got inside we were immediately seated.  I got things started with a Moscow Mule and we listened to live music, which was a soloist on an acoustic guitar while we perused the menu.

It just so happens that this place is known to have the best burgers Hilton Head Island and it was featured on Drive Ins, Diners and Dives.  They also carry craft beer and wines.  Of course when your in an award winning burger bar you have to try the burgers so we ordered a CharBar burger and a CharBar double cheese burger. This burger was cooked to perfection and super juicy.  We were so full when we left.  We also enjoyed a crisp house salad and rosemary fries.

Hilton Head Island has so many hidden gems that I cannot begin to list them all because I have not explored them all. We did have a great time and enjoyed ourselves at these three places.  They all provided us with great food, wine and entertainment for our special anniversary weekend. If you are ever in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, I hope you check these establishments out and tell them that “The SistahChick” sent ya!
