A lovely dayyyyyy, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day (sing with me) because Bill Withers song “Lovely Day” is the first thing that came to mind when I thought about how I would describe my experience at the 19th Annual Afternoon in the Country presented by Les Dames d’Escoffier International – Atlanta Chapter.

Afternoon in the Country

This was my first time attending so I did not know what to expect.  The weather was perfect for this outdoor event. It was held at Foxhall Resort in Douglasville.  This sprawling estate was very picturesque.

The proceeds from Afternoon in the Country benefit scholarships for women in the culinary fields, Georgia’s farming community and organizations that feed the hungry.

There were over 150 of Atlanta’s top chefs and beverage makers all in one place to give us savory bites, sweet treats and plenty to drink..

Upon entry I was immediately struck with the beauty and natural use of all of the flowers. I garden, so I enjoyed seeing the eclectic mix of roses, marigolds and Autumn leaves.  It was charming.

Once I started tasting it was on. Each tent was filled with chef after chef waiting to share and inform.  The wine and bourbon makers were the same.

I tasted a wide variety of food. There were some things that I had never eaten before like Caviar and Foie Gras.

Presentation matters and these chefs displayed it like they meant it!  The Vegan Seared Scallop and the pureed pumpkin were not only delicious but also beautiful

Since everything was locally sourced Georgia mushrooms were present in a lot of the dishes.  This particular dish was Salmon Tartare with pickled mushrooms on crostini.

The cake raffle featured delectable one of a kind creations from some of the city’s best pastry chefs.

It was so much fun!  I just love seeing old friends and meeting new people.

Afternoon in the Country goes down in history as an amaahhz event and I hope to attend it again next year.  It’s always nice to know that you can eat, drink and have fun and all for a very worthy cause.  I am down for anything that positively contributes to the culinary community.  For more information on Afternoon in the Country presented by Les Dames d’Escoffier International – Atlanta Chapter check out their website ldeiatlanta.org
