I am so excited to tell you about this movie, Southside With You, that hits theaters nationwide on August 26th. It is the story of how Barack & Michelle Obama met and fell in love. Before they were The President of the United States and his First Lady, they were “Barack & Michelle”. This film’s Executive Producer is John Legend and stars the beautiful Tika Sumpter as Michelle Obama and Parker Sawyers as Barack Obama.
It is a TRUE love story about a REAL couple that we ALL can relate to. This is an emotional and smart film that is more than just a “date night” movie.
Synopsis:
Inspired by Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date, SOUTHSIDE WITH YOU recounts the eventful summer day in 1989 when a young law firm associate named Barack Obama (Parker Sawyers) tried to woo lawyer Michelle Robinson (Tika Sumpter) during a daylong date that took them from the Art Institute of Chicago to a screening of Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing to the site of their first kiss outside of an ice cream parlor.

This movie opens nationwide on August 26th. It is a positive and uplifting love story that I cannot wait to see. I am a sucker for romance and I have been intrigued with the Obamas since their first inauguration. His affection for her is so apparent in the way he looks at her. And she really accentuates his leadership in my opinion. I truly enjoy hearing every married couples “how we met” story and I have even shared my own story here. I am going to support this film because it is a refreshing, positive story about two fantastic role models and I hope you will too!
