Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta is WE Tv’s newest series! It features the next generation of Hip Hop by focusing on the children of some of Hip Hop’s royalty who live in Atlanta.

Growing Up Hip Hop ATL

Included in this seasons cast are:

Bow Wow who grew up in the Hip Hop game under the wings of Hip Hop greats like Snoop Dogg and Jermaine Dupri.

Reginae Carter  – Daughter of rap star Lil Wayne

Zonnique Pullins – Daughter of T.I. and Tiny

Ayana Fite – Daughter of DJ Hurricane

Shaniah Mauldin – Daughter of Jermaine Dupri

Brandon Barnes –  Son of Hip Hop manager, Ms Deb and Waka Flocka’s brother

The dynamics of this show are a bit different because it focuses on the offspring of some of Hip Hop musics biggest stars and what life is like for them to grow up in the shadows of their famous parents.  The show does a great job of highlighting what is going on with each cast member.  And they all have a story to tell. Of course there is tension and drama but at the end of the day what I see is parents trying their best to protect and promote their children in this game.

Zonnique is struggling to pull away from her mom to start her own career.

Reginae battles with her mother to get what she wants.

Brandon is having a hard time moving out from under his mom’s shadow to start managing his own talent.

Ayana is showcasing her openly gay lifestyle and seeking acceptance from her family and others as she introduces a new girlfriend.

They are all playing out these stories for all to see.  There is a soft spot in my heart for Zonnique she seems sincere about where she wants to go and what she wants to do but Mz Deb is right, she has been spoiled by her celebrity parents.

Reginae is a typical Daddy’s Girl.  If Mommy says no, run to Dad for the yes.  It’s all good but if she wants to call herself mature then she is going to have to grow up and stop behaving like a little girl.

I am especially interested in the story between Bow Wow and his estranged father.  I grew up without a father who was murdered before I could address things with him and forgive him. It’s one of my life’s biggest regrets… In this episode Bow Wow is confronted by his father on Instagram. He does not have a relationship with this man and is clearly not interested in starting one now.  Bow Wow has the chance to address things with his father and possibly forgive him but will he?  You will have to stay tuned to next weeks episode to find out.
