A Day Trip to Boston – Exploring Newbury Street

While in town catching a flight on the way home from Martha’s Vineyard the family and I decided to take in the city of Boston.  We only had a few hours but we intended to make the most of it so we headed to Newbury Street where all of the action (Shopping & Food) was.

Boston – Newbury Street

Newbury Street is located in the Back Bay Area of Boston and offers 8 city blocks of food, shopping, fashion and beauty.  Each establishment is housed within historic brownstones that were built in the 1800’s and line each side of the street.

First things first: Parking. If you are lucky you can score metered parking on the streets.  There is a very large parking garage that you can use if you don’t mind walking.  Since I had my mom and dad with me we parked in a lot near Newbury.  The rates were crazy high.

Once we got our parking situation squared away we hit the street!  Newbury Street has everything from designer high end stores to Vegan ice cream to everything in between.

Let’s Eat!  We were hungry from the drive so we immediately looked for a restaurant that could accommodate 9 people and my grandbaby.  We stopped in to Joe’s American Bar and Grill. I had my whole family with me so I wanted a place with a lot of options for everyone.  I ordered the Barbeque Pulled Pork Sliders and Fish Tacos. The coleslaw that topped these sliders was tres magnifique! For appetizers these portions were large!

We explored as much as we could in the time that we had. I really enjoyed looking at the brownstones. Each structure appeared to have its original brick.  Even though some were painted.  The theme was the same all the way down Newbury Street.  Towering brownstones with original brick and historic features on the outside.  On the inside, however, each shoppe had its own branding and individual flair.

Of course I couldn’t leave Boston without stopping by Cheers which isn’t on Newbury Street but its close.  This is an actual establishment and it is open and available for dining and cocktails.  Cheers was one of my favorite sitcoms to watch in the late 80’s early 90’s.  I loved it and it was fun stopping by the place “…where everybody knows your name.”

We had the perfect weather of 80 degrees, low humidity and not a cloud in the sky.  Which means it was a perfect day for ice cream.  Since my grandbaby is vegetarian we stopped my FoMu for some vegan ice cream. This is a small batch ice creamery that uses plant based ingredients and home recipes to create its treats.

This was my very first time in Boston and I know that there is so much more there to see. My family and I had a great time exploring as much of the city as we could in the little time that we had.  This area of the city was very touristy. The views were amazing and everything looked picture perfect. I would love to go back and spend more time in some of the other areas in the city. Until then I will keep the memory of our Day Trip to Boston – Newbury Street alive through this blog!

Have you ever been to Boston?
