11th Annual International Shea Butter Convention

Shea Butter Flyer FrontIt was more than anything I could have ever imagined.  It was more than just a convention. The 11th Annual International Shea Butter Conventions is aptly themed:

“Create Locally, Connect Globally:  Developing International Business Opportunities for Grassroots Women in the Shea Sector.”

This annual convention lasts for 2 days.  I was in attendance on Saturday, Day 2 and got to sit in on the Shea Academic Symposium which was moderated by Dr. Issafu Harruna, PhD.  I won’t lie, it was way above my level of understanding.  My level of Shea Butter knowledge ceases outside of knowing the beneficial affects that it has on our skin, scalp and hair.  Topics discussed in this session were: The Pharmacology of Shea, Hair Growth Enhancement Studies and Clinical Evaluations to name a few.  All items were presented by various doctors, professors and engineers.

Following the symposium I was able to peek in on several break out sessions that were happening. Launching Shea butter businesses was of particular interest to me.  Each room was filled with the mostly women which fit directly in with the theme of this years convention.

At one of the sessions I met Mr.  Brian Jenkins, President of Starting Up Now.  StartingUp Now offers business solutions and teaches participants the steps needed to launch their own businesses

This convention had it all, I only wish that I’d had more time to spend.  If you have ANY interest in knowing all there is to know about Shea butter than you may want to mark your calendars for next year!

Do you use Shea butter?  If so, do you have any idea how its made?
