Imagine A Future - A My Black Is Beautiful Documentary

As an attendee of Blogalicious 5 we had the opportunity to experience some of the initiatives that major brands have created that relate to African American women. One of the key sessions that stood out to me at this years conference was the “Imagine A Future” documentary that was shown and the Q & A with film maker Lisa Cortes that occurred after the screening. Presented by Procter & Gamble’s My Black is Beautiful campaign, this poignant coming of age film asks and answers a very … Continue reading

Da Kink In My Hair - A Play by Trey Anthony

Da Kink In My Hair is a play that headlined in Atlanta last weekend. It is based on a book written by award winning playwright, Trey Anthony. Even though I usually am not a huge fan of stage plays, I was super excited to receive tickets to this show as a birthday gift. I was immediately drawn to the title of the play. I saw the words, “kink” and “hair” and being the naturalista that I am I was immediately sold! I reached out to … Continue reading

Why is Our Natural Hair Unacceptable?

Here we go again folks. Another little child suffers the consequences of wearing her hair natural. Apparently, Deborah Brown Community School a public charter school in Tulsa, OK believes that natural hair styles such as afros, locs, etc… are faddish and unacceptable and violate the schools dress code. Parker, who’s a barber, said school officials at Deborah Brown told him Tiana’s hair didn’t look presentable. “She’s always presentable. I take pride in my kids looking nice,” said Parker. - Fox23.com As you can see here … Continue reading

Transitioning Movement by Carol’s Daughter

I am so pleased to announce that I have been selected as a contributor to TransitioningMovement.com. Transitioning Movement is an awesome site created by Carol’s Daughter. Lisa Price of Carol’s Daughter’s Products has been a pioneer and leader in the natural hair product market for years. In fact, her products were some of the first that I tried when I decided to go natural back in 2006. Realizing that there are many more layers to the natural woman besides just her hair, it’s focus is … Continue reading

The theme for this edition of Chocolate Chat Atlanta is Dress for Success. The idea being to show people how to use a few basic styling techniques to put together business professional and casual outfits using items from your own closet. It was genius really and Chocolate Chat Ceo, Swarthy Daisy did a great job. Wardrobe Specialist, Keosha Roque, put her expertise to work on a recently unemployed, wife and mother who volunteered to model for this event. Atlanta is full of fun activities that include children. There are several organizations set up to cater to the growing needs of our kids and you don’t have to look very far to find them.
