Da Kink In My Hair - A Play by Trey Anthony

dakink

Da Kink In My Hair is a play that headlined in Atlanta last weekend. It is based on a book written by award winning playwright, Trey Anthony. Even though I usually am not a huge fan of stage plays, I was super excited to receive tickets to this show as a birthday gift. I was immediately drawn to the title of the play. I saw the words, “kink” and “hair” and being the naturalista that I am I was immediately sold! I reached out to … Continue reading →

Why is Our Natural Hair Unacceptable?

loctastrophy

Here we go again folks. Another little child suffers the consequences of wearing her hair natural. Apparently, Deborah Brown Community School a public charter school in Tulsa, OK believes that natural hair styles such as afros, locs, etc… are faddish and unacceptable and violate the schools dress code. I take pride in my kids looking nice,” said Parker. - Fox23.com As you can see here … Continue reading →

Realizing that there are many more layers to the natural woman besides just her hair, it’s focus is … Continue reading →

Chloe St. John - The Shih-tzu Puppy That Stole Our Hearts

IMG_4067

I did something that I said that I’d never do. Yes, I broke down and got my daughter a dog. I have nothing against dogs but was just never a pet person. I never desired to deal with the care or maintenance of a pet. Not with 4 kids in the house, no way. As a reward to my daughter for excelling in school and fitness in the summer we offered her a choice between a puppy or a cell phone. We didn’t really … Continue reading →

JessiCurl - A Natural Hair Company That Cares

Jessicurl Ad

Back in February 2013, my daughter and I attended a Fro Fashion Week sanctioned, natural hair function for kids and Jess McGuinty of Jessicurl was there as a participant and sponsor. In a round table discussion, I shared some of the trials and tribulations that my daughter had been going through at school regarding her natural hair. Namely, that she was being teased at school for NOT wearing weave and for NOT straightening her hair. I noticed that Jess was immediately touched by this story … Continue reading →
