Black-ish Star Yara Shahidi Rocks Her Natural Hair in Teen Vogue
I love the show Black-ish and I especially love the focus they give to natural hair styling and maintenance on the show. Everything from the episode where Grandma Ruby put baby girl’s straight hair into an Afro to ALL of the super cute teen styles that are worn by actress Yara Shahidi. Yara plays the character “Zoey” in ABC’s sitcom Black-ish. Her and her natural mom, “Rainbow”, played by actress Traci Ellis Ross have a typical mother/teen daughter relationship.

This post is sponsored by Dove Hair #LoveYourCurls Campaign. All opinions are my own.
I was more than happy to take part in the Dove Hair #LoveYourCurls campaign. I have been a soldier in the #NaturalHair movement since 2009 and am very passionate about natural beauty and empowering women to embrace beauty on their own terms. I’ve made encouraging women to love themselves a big part of my life. This blog as well as my social networks all reflect it- I want everyone to know that part of self-acceptance is being confident in who you are and making no apology for it.

It was an honor (and SO much fun) to witness America’s favorite beagle, Snoopy aka “The Flying Ace”, being proclaimed as an honorary pilot by Delta Airlines! It was a star studded, red carpet event. Snoopy arrived with a 7 car motorcade along with the stars, producer and director of The Peanuts Movie that hits theaters November, 6th. The community came out to support the ceremony which was held outside the Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta. Many came out to see Snoopy!
Take Back Control! Stop Bladder Leakage With Poise Impressa
This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. You must be 21+ years old to try Poise Impressa Bladder Supports. #MySizePoise #CollectiveBias
One of most favorite things to do is meeting friends for brunch. After all, the best conversations happen over food and drinks. During my last brunch with friends I casually mentioned that I would be writing a post about Poise Impressa and boy did the conversation take an interesting turn. I’m not one to get into anyone’s personal female business so I was delighted to be the instigator of this interesting and necessary subject. 3 of the 5 women that joined me that day expressed that they deal with bladder leakage caused by coughing, laughing or sneezing or exercising.
Remembering The Million Woman March
On October 25, 1997 I boarded a bus from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Philadelphia, PA. Back then I was a single mother. I had 2 jobs and 2 young sons. The struggle was real. But yet, I was very active in my community and considered myself a real soldier for diversity. I ran the African American Employee Network at my job. I volunteered by working with children in my community. I participated in cultural events and really celebrated myself and “my people”. I remember when I heard about the Million Woman March.
