Natural Hair: 4 Ways to Achieve Growth & Retain Length

When I first went natural back in 2006 my friends thought that I was insane. My hair was shoulder length at the time. I did not transition long, opting to first cut my relaxed hair into a short style one month before my Big Chop (cutting off relaxed ends). So the change was very abrupt and drastic. What’s the first thing you think when a woman cuts her hair? That she is going through something. Right? Well I wasn’t going through anything per se. I … Continue reading

Black Man & White Woman Tell Their Stories In Each Others Voices #LostVoices (CUPSI 2015)
At a recent CUPSI (College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational) event the audience was blown away as a Black man and a White woman performed their poem “Lost Voices”. The spoken word type poem is unique in that they tell their stories in each others voices. He speaks experiences as a white woman dealing with sexism and she speaks experiences as a Black man dealing with racism. It was a very awesome performance and as a Black person who is also a Woman I was very … Continue reading

In honor of Father’s day, this month we are pleased to change things up a bit by honoring an African American male for the 1st time. It … Continue reading

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. Summers here and the time is right…for (dancing in the streets) Ok ok so I started writing and out of no where that song came out. 3 Steps to Achieve the Perfect Twist Out Style for #NaturalHair
I have worn my hair natural for the past 9 years. For those of you who may not know “going natural” for the Black woman means to wear your hair using no chemical straightening process aka “relaxer”. A lot of women refuse to go natural because of the time that they believe it takes to maintain. I am here to tell you that as working wife and mother I often did not have the time to do a lot of fancy braided or twisted styles, … Continue reading
