Dark Girls Documentary on OWN

Dark Girls is a poignant documentary that investigates what it means to not only be Black in America, but what it means to be a Black person with dark skin. It was aired on OWN this week. It was a 2 hour documentary and i thought that it was not only well done but that it has also been crucial to get a dialogue reopened about colorism not just in America but abroad as well. I spoke about this very subject in my post Beautiful … Continue reading

Atlanta Jazz Festival 2013

You never have to spend a lot of money in Atlanta to have fun. The Atlanta Jazz Festival is just another one of those fantastic events that caters to families. Free of charge and on the MARTA line, packing up our blanket and heading to Piedmont on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon was a no brainer. There were crowds of people walking from the MARTA station to the park and I had a good time chatting as we trekked our way to the venue. We saw … Continue reading

5 Reasons Why Little Girls Need Daddies Too!

I love this picture so much. It’s of my daughter and her father, my husband, at her graduation. I am nearly brought to tears every time I look at it. Seeing the confidence in her gaze and the security in her eyes as her father gently kisses her head… It opens old wounds for me of growing up without a father. It creates a longing for something that I never had. Paternal love. It brings me joy when I understand what she has. Paternal love. … Continue reading
