The Generous Pour: A Summer Wine Event by The Capital Grille

I thoroughly enjoyed myself at The Generous Pour Summer Wine Event at The Capital Grille.  The Capital Grille – Buckhead puts on many themed events and The Generous Pour is just one of them.  You may remember when I was there last year for their Wagyu and Wine event.

The Generous Pour

The Generous Pour is a magnificent Summer event that will be going on at The Capital Grille through September 1st.  I was so glad to have been invited as a member of Atlanta Food & Lifestyle Blogger Society to check it out.

Fellow ATLFBS members Oh Nikka and Toby Bloomberg were in the house.  I also finally got to meet Eating with Erica!  I have been following her for years and it was a pleasure to meet her.

Upon entry we were greeted with a lovely flute of champagne from Melanie Maxwell, Sales and Marketing Manager at The Capital Grille Buckhead.

It was a small private gathering so we got to take our time exploring these wines. Wine Director, Josh Moore was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions as he took us on a tour of Legends of the Land.

Legends of the Land is 7 California wines each with a remarkable story to tell.  They include a winery inspired by a racehorse; a red blend born from a childhood friendship; and the California winery that shocked the entire world by placing at the 1976 Judgement of Paris wine tasting.  All connected by the renowned Jackson Family winemakers.

Executive Chef, Adam Murphy, created sumptuous food pairings to go along with each wine.  The Food and Wine pairings were as follows: (pay attention to the tasting notes for each wine below to understand why they might have been paired)

Stonestreet Sauvignon Blanc

Beausoleil Oysters, New Brunswick

(tasting notes: Meyer lemon an Thai basil with notes of pear, fennel, and lemon blossom)

Nielson Chardonnay

Lobster Crab Cake with Corn Relish and house made Tartar Sauce

(tasting notes: White citrus blossoms, tropical pineapple, honey, apple and a hint of brioche)

Copain Rose

Fresh Watermelon Salad with Feta and Arugula

(tasting notes: Bouquet of white flowers and red fruits with flavors of honeydew and white strawberries.)

Maggie Hawk Pinot Noir

Pan seared Sea Bass with Miso Butter and Soy Pearls

(tasting notes: Pomegranate, cranberry and black tea with hints of strawberry and lavender.)

Cenyth Red Blend

Double Cut Lamb with Mint Gremolata

(tasting notes: Lilacs, blueberries and blackberries with hints of bay leaf, mint and underlying earthiness.)

Arrowood Red Blend

Dry Aged Sliced Sirloin with Wasabi Oil

(tasting notes: Black plum with flavors of earth, underbrush, tarragon and notes of savory black olive.)

Freemark Abbey Cabernet

Flourless Chocolate Cake with port soaked Cherries

(tasting notes: Boysenberry, dark cherry, toasty oak, cinnamon, clove, tobacco and dark cocoa powder.)

With a menu pairing like this it was hard to tell whether the wine enhanced the food or the food enhanced the wine.  Maybe they equally enhanced each other, either way each sampling was a match made in heaven.

I finally concluded that the tasting notes in the wine brought out the flavors in the food. My favorite match was the Nielson Chardonnay and Lobster Crab cake.
