{{RECAP}} #OMF2014 One Music Fest Atlanta 2014 Featuring Kendrick Lamar & Nas!!

One Music Fest 2014

OhEmGee.  Is it proper to start a post that way? Who cares!  My wonderful, beautiful, handsome, thoughtful son gave me the ULTIMATE birthday gift!! He decided to surprise his dear old mum with tickets to this years One Music Fest!  This boy has grown up at my feet with me listening to Nas for basically his whole life.  Yes I am HUGE Nas fan.  Fav Albums:  Illmatic, I Am, Nastradamus, God’s Son, Street’s Disciple… ok all of them.  I enjoy his words, his beats his flow, his timing, his demeanor.  Hell I have seen Belly so many times.  It’s one of my all time favorites!  Ok so do you get it?  I love Nas.  I am not nor do I pretend to be a Music Critic.  I just like what I like.  That being said I was absolutely thrilled to be in attendance at One Music Fest 2014.

Since 2010, ONE Musicfest has been bringing your favorite artists from yesterday and today, alongside tomorrow’s next big thing! ~OneMusicfest.com

One MusicFest is the Southeast’s largest and most cross-genre musical arts festival, aimed at bridging the gap between diverse audiences through games, interactive activities, visual arts, food, shopping and, of course, music… ~OneMusicfest.com

Held at Aaron’s Amphitheater this covered outdoor venue was PACKED with fans from all over the Southeast.  The weather cooperated with no rain, sunshine and cool breezes when the sun went down.  This years line up was CRAZY featuring artists such as:  Jhene Aiko, Bilal, Amel Larriuex, Method Man, RedMan and more!   My husband and I could not attend during the day due to previously scheduled obligations, so we arrived right before Sir Kendrick Lamar performed (I call him sir now after seeing him perform).  Sidenote:  I am familiar with Sir Kendrick but not much.  I tend to stay old school in my musical preferences and rarely introduce new music.  It is what it is.  I had to cram for Kendrick before I got there by listening to Good Kid, M.A.A.D City over and over again a couple weeks prior to the event.  I really enjoyed it and felt like this young man had a lot to say and he said it well.  But watching him perform some of those songs live was a whole nother thang.  We were bouncing live to Bitch, Dont Kill My Vibe (my new theme song), Poetic Justice, Swimming Pools…  I really wanted him to do “No Make Up” I really dig that one.  Yeah I know, I’m a wife and mother and I’m not supposed to be out bouncing and listening to rap music with curse words about sex. You know what? I was young once too and enjoyed ALL kinds of music including RAP.  I see nothing wrong with me getting my rap concert on in my 40’s with my husband!  I ENJOYED Kendrick yes I did!  So for those of you who will email me later about this post.  Don’t.

In my opinion Nas is one of the best rappers ever.   The greatest of all time.  He is severely under rated, the fact that he has been in the rap game for 20+ years and is STILL relevant, with or without mainstream audiences speaks to his skills and abilities.  NAS came out telling these children that some of his songs were older then them! …and the older fans rejoiced with howls and screams.  (Ok maybe that was just me screaming.  lol)! He killed us with One Mic, If I Ruled The The World, Hate me Now, I Know I Can and many more favorites.  I really wanted to hear Suicide Bounce!  I love that song! But its all good cause he has so many hits to choose from it must have been hard to narrow it down.  I cant imagine!
