Cornrows are perfect for children. The cornrow technique offers a wide variety of styling choices. However, if the hairstyle isn’t installed or taken down properly, the natural hair can experience unintentional hair loss and breakage. There are a few pros and cons every parent should be aware of before styling their child’s hair in cornrows.

  • Low Manipulation hairstyle which allows the hair to grow.
  • Cornrows are cute and unique.
  • Children love to have hearts, stars and diamonds styled in their hair.
  • Cornrows last for 2 weeks.

Cons: Cornrows

  • Cornrows are often installed tighter in order for the hair design to be visible.

To prevent hair breakage while wearing cornrows, spraying cornrows with distilled water and apply a good moisturizer to the hair every few days wearing the cornrow hairstyle.

Tools Needed To Take Down Cornrows:

  • Spray bottle filled with distilled water.
  • Rat tail comb for taking out the cornrows.
  • Wide tooth comb for detangling hair.
  • Hair clamps for hair previously detangled.

Spraying the cornrows with distilled water first will give the hair moisture and make it easier to take the cornrows out. Be gentle when taking out overlapping cornrows. Following these simple tips will ensure your child’s hair health while wearing cornrows.
