It was a beautiful Spring day here in Atlanta and I decided to grab my mom and daughter and head on over to Urban Grind Cafe to meet Atlanta artist Jennifer Arnise at her Art Opening & Pop Up Shop. Urban Grind Cafe was the perfect backdrop for hosting this event with its eclectic decor and atmosphere. Jennifer Arnise is a contemporary artist whose work is funky and vibrant. She uses many different mediums in her artwork and its really something to see. Her big haired, curvy art series Urban Whimsy was of particular interest to me. I mean just look at some of these pieces! I honestly would be happy to have all of them displayed somewhere in my home.
This one is called The Shigity! I really love it. It is acrylic on canvas.
This one is called Party All The Time and its mixed media on canvas.
Jennifer describes her art as Abstract Natural Hair Art. When I asked her what made her choose to go in this direction, she said that while taking an art class she recognized that often there were no brown figures or ethnic figures being designed. She wanted to create art that was urban, colorful and happy. In my opinion, she has done just that with her unique pieces that caters to women of color who have natural hair! It was a great afternoon full of family and friends and a perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Month.
