“I Waited for You” (Marriage Vows) by Janette McGhee Watson

Wedding Day VowsSo many things come through my Facebook feed.  Some of it’s cute, some funny, some angry and some just plain bad… And then came this.  Marriage vows raw and uncut spoken by a beautiful Queen to her gorgeous King as they stood at the altar on their wedding day.  I do not know this couple.  In fact I never heard of them until today.  Queen Janette waited for her husband and from some internet searching I found that she has been waiting for awhile, not for the perfect man but for the perfect man for her.  King Matthew found her.

I will be the one drenched in Proverbs 31 waiting for you…

~Janette McGhee, I Will Wait For You

I just celebrated my 14th wedding anniversary last month.  You all know the story of my king through this blog and everything that I have written about him on BlackAndMarriedWithKids.com.  When I heard these vows it gave me deep chills, tears and it caused me to reflect on my wait.  It also made me want to marry my husband all over again. I am not a poet nor do I desire to be, but if I could ever speak as eloquently as this… I wish.  I consider these vows to be a blessing.

Dear Janette McGhee Watson,

Even though I don’t know you from a can of paint, I want to thank you for these vows.  I hope that they are written somewhere and cherished by all forever.  Your words were not just for you and your betrothed but for all of us who toiled in our labor to be patient women of faith.  Your words are for every young woman with those lists and those dream for the man on a white horse.  Your words speak for truth and realness.  Your words could have been my own vows to my husband.  Thank you for putting your words together and allowing all of us out here in the reach of social media to e able to hear them and therefore share them with each other.

Peace,

The SistahChick

I want to also point out that this young lady’s crown is gorgeous and I am so happy to see Black women who are not afraid to rock their natural tresses on their wedding day.  There is nothing more regal.

Wishing Matthew & Janette peace and blessings and many years of joy! Congratulations!!
