Grey’s Anatomy ~ Baby Zola’s Hair

Grey’s Anatomy tackled the topic of white parents caring for their black children’s hair in last weeks episode.  I really love the way it was handled (with humor & love).  For those of you who don’t watch “Grey’s”.  Dr. & Mrs Shepherd (a white couple) have adopted an African American child.   I appreciate that the show expanded on this often untalked about issue.  The clips are below.

In this scene Dr Shepherd believes that a woman is racist because she stares at him and baby Zola

In this scene Dr. Bailey shows Derek how to do baby Zola’s hair

Did you see it?  What did you think?

I gave up cable for Lent so I was not able to watch it, but I like how Bailey told him to get it together. DO YO BABY’S HAIR! Very nice. I assume this was a daddy caring for baby episode.

    1. If my hubby, who is black, had to do my daughters hair it would probably be the same situation!! lol. Thanks for reading!

  2. Saw the episode and I loved it! I laughed, because as a white mommy to a biracial daughter people are often shocked that I know a little something about her hair and even more shocked when I tell them I do her hair myself. I think it’s great they made this a side story through out the whole episode.

    1. You are right about that, you do a wonderful job with your daughters hair and also take the time to help others do the same! You Rock! Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment :-)
