You can’t go anywhere without seeing teenage girls wearing their hair styled in crochet braids. Crochet braiding is not a new technique, but it is one that is regaining popularity. According to a study, I conducted in my hair studio, the number one reason why teens say they wear their hair in crochet braids is to protect their natural hair from daily manipulation. The second reason why crochet braids are popular among teens is the easy installation. Instead of sitting in a chair for 7 to 9 hours getting a boxed braid installation, the estimated time for a crochet braids installation is between 2 to 4 hours, which also depends on the cornrow foundation of the crochet braids.

The Growing Trend Of Crochet Braids

The biggest hair fashion craze during the Spring/Summer of 2015 were Marley/Havana Twist. Beauty Supply Stores has endless supplies of the “Marley Twist” brands. Today, there has been a major shift in the beauty supply stores, especially here in Waldorf Maryland. While visiting the Beauty 4 U, 1/2 of the store is filled with crochet braid brands. Every brand, style and color are represented in that store. It is safe to say that crochet braids will be in high demand among teens during the summer months. However, keep in mind where there is high demand, there is also high prices. Crochet Braids per individual pack used to be $3.99. Now the price range for Crochet Braid hair per pack is between $4.99 to $9.00.

Your teen can bring their own unique element to wearing Crochet Braids. They can be worn as a combination style with cornrows on one side of the head and crochet braids on the opposite side. If your teen has her hair shaved into a Mohawk style, crochet braids can be added to the middle to make her style POP! Even if your child has Locs, they too can receive a Crochet Braid style installation. Having their Locs braided back into cornrows only to have Crochet Braids installed. Crochet Braids are extremely creative.

What are your thoughts of Crochet Braids? Do you love them or hate them? Would you allow your daughter to wear her hair in Crochet Braids.
