Container Gardening! Tips & Benefits

I was admittedly behind in getting my container garden going this year.  Lucky for me I live in Georgia which is considered Zone 7.  Here you can plant pretty much from April – August.  That being said My summer flourished with veggies and I am preparing now for my winter crop of various lettuces.

Container gardening is so easy and its also fun.  More importantly you can save money, be healthy and eat the tastiest freshest veggies ever!  But you also want to make sure you are having fun.  Yeah there is a little bit of work involved with anything but that does not mean that you cant enjoy it.

A few of the dishes that I have prepared using items from my garden.

Grow Your Own Food

Here are few tips to make your container garden experience easy and delightful

Verify your “zone” or geographic area by checking out your local gardening store or website

This will take all of the drama out of your experience because your zone tells exactly what will grow best in your region and when.

Select the things that you will grow based on what you like

Its your container garden so grow what you like.  Here is what I like and its also what I grew:  Onions, Carrots, Cucumbers, Basil, Oregano, Collards, Kale & Lavender.  Seeds for all of these were available at my local home supply store.  All of these vegetables thrive in zone 7 during the summer months.

Placement

Find a nice sunny place thats open and has bees.  You need the bees to grow things like cucumbers and tomatoes.  Full sun is required for most vegetables.  Make sure you are close to a water source, because you’ll need to water your garden

Cute Pots and Supplies

Make sure you have all the right supplies.  I get all of my cute pots from Big Lots so it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money.  I added wind chimes because i like them.  You’ll need dirt in a bag, unless you have fertile soil in your back yard.  If you want you can pick yourself up some hand held garden tools and gloves.

Containers

Once you implement these tips and have all of these items you’ll be all set to grow, grow grow.  If you get confused about what is supposed to grow and when just read the back of your seed packet.  its all there.  Easy Peasy.  Plus look at these prices!!  Basil:  $2.49 for .75 oz!
