I love the show Black-ish and I especially love the focus they give to natural hair styling and maintenance on the show. Everything from the episode where Grandma Ruby put baby girl’s straight hair into an Afro to ALL of the super cute teen styles that are worn by actress Yara Shahidi. Yara plays the character “Zoey” in ABC’s sitcom Black-ish. Her and her natural mom, “Rainbow”, played by actress Traci Ellis Ross have a typical mother/teen daughter relationship. As the mother of a teen daughter myself I completely relate! It’s fun to have a show that my daughter and I can watch together that features a cast of Black women who are wear their natural hair!

She definitely does her thing and with such seasoned style and grace. It’s so important that our younger girls see major teen stars embrace their natural beauty. It gives them permission to do the same. The style below uses intricate braiding designs to create this naturally elegant Frohawk and I LOVE it!
Yara has a bright future in Hollywood as a trendsetter and this is the kind of fashion that I enjoy seeing on a girl of her age- fully clothed, minimal make up and natural. I hope she stays true to her natural beauty and I hope that the show Black-ish continues to bring us quality humor while interjecting the real issues into their shtick. You go Yara! We love you and will be watching you as you rise!!
