Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint (The Juke Joint) is a trendy Atlanta eatery that serves Southern style cuisine aka Soul Food.  It features entertainment including LIVE bands and has a friendly atmosphere with room for dancing.

Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint (The Juke Joint)

I am a long time customer of this establishment so it was an honor to be there as an invited guest.  It is a brilliant homage to “juke joints” which is part of our African American Culture and history.

“…juke joints catered to the rural work force that began to emerge after the emancipation. Primarily African-American establishments, juke joints were opened in the southeastern United States during the era of the Jim Crow Laws.”  sweetgeorgiasjukejoint.com

There are even nods to the movie, “The Color Purple” with live entertainment and with menu items like Miss Ceely’s Fruit Punch. I love everything about this place. There is great food, LIVE music and a popping colorful atmosphere. Here is why I think that Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint is one of the best places to eat in Atlanta!

Location.  Location.  Location.

It is located at 200 Peachtree Street in the heart of downtown Atlanta

Atmosphere

Manager,Carol Stewart, took excellent care of us and made sure that a special VIP table was set up for when we arrived.  The atmosphere is modern jazzy and that colorful 3-d mural gets me every time.   The architecture inside this converted department store is incredible.  Every arch and every beam perfectly placed.  The Juke Joint has live acts that perform nightly and there is plenty of room for dancing.  We jammed to The Joanne Smith Experience while we were there.  This group plays a very eclectic mix of old and new school music.

The Menu

The Juke Joint specializes in Southern style cuisine aka soul food.  You can find everything from Collard greens and cornbread muffins to glazed salmon.  Everything was seasoned to perfection.  We were served 3 courses that included Appetizer, Entree and Dessert.  Keep reading to see what we had!

We started with an ice cold jar of Miss Ceely’s Strawberry Fruit Punch.  The perfect segueway to the amazing meal to come.

Southern Starter

Fried green tomatoes, crispy Vidalia onions and fried okra, topped with herb goat cheese and red pepper aioli.  I was not an “okra eater” until now, that is.  These tasty morsels were breaded and fried perfectly together to make the flavor of the okra pop! Delicious

Shrimp & Grits

Sauteed shrimp and Parmesan cheese grits, topped with tomatoes and crispy Vidalia onions.  This dish is already a favorite of mine and I have had it many times.  Never disappointed.  You can swap the shrimp out for fried catfish if you want.  Either way the grits are creamy and tasty

Juke Joint Fried Chicken

House specialty served with Southern mac & cheese and collard greens with smoked turkey.  As many times as I have been here I have never tried this dish.  The fried chicken was perfect and crunchy on the outside.  It was moist and flavorful on the inside.  My side choices oc collard greens and mac and cheese tasted like somebody mama made them!  It was excellent!

Sweet Georgia’s Peach Cobbler

Sweet Georgia Peaches baked in a buttery crust.  The only way you will know how good this is… Taste it yourself!

Spiced Apple Bread Pudding

Infused with moonshine, raisins, topped with praline sauce.  This was pure rich, delicious, goodness.

My husband and I had a wonderful time dining VIP style at Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint.  This is one of our favorite spots to go to for good grown fun.  We have been faithful customers for over 5 years so it was a great honor to be there as special invited guests of The Juke Joint.  If you are in Atlanta or heading here put this place on your list of spots to visit.  It is definitely one of the Best Places to Eat in Atlanta.
