Do you believe that U.S. citizens deserve a safe and decent place to live? How do you feel about public housing? How do you feel about public housing in your neighborhood?   On Tuesday, June 21, 2016 there is an incredible film event coming to Atlanta.  The Atlanta Housing Authority and the ReThink: Why Housing Matters initiative are teaming up to host a film screening of “Our Journey Home,” a documentary that sheds light on real-life stories of people touched by public housing as they strive to support their families, further their education and careers, give back to their communities, and have a place to call home. Narrated by singer-songwriter and ReThink Ambassador, Jewel, this film gets up close and personal with people whose lives have been positively affected by the privilege of simply having somewhere to live.  Jewel’s own personal story of homelessness may surprise you.  You may think that this is not something that can affect you but with 75% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck homelessness is closer than some think.

Our Journey Home: Bridging the gap between misperceptions and real stories of people living in public housing

Public housing provides the opportunity to live, grow and succeed. It provides hope for a better future. This documentary hopes to change your perception of what public housing is and what it means to those who benefit from it.
