I had an awesome time with Ms. Africa Miranda at her Girls With Curls event sponsored by ORS Curls Unleashed and Sunny’s Hair & Wigs. She was there for a quick Q&A hosted by The Skky Brand CEO & Entertainment Socialite DiDi Skky and also to launch her Girls with Curls Initiative.
I admit that when I first met Africa at Blogalicious 5 I did not know who she was. At that time I had never watched Bravo’s “The New Atlanta”. All I know is that she had on some bad ass embossed python stilettos and I let her know. When she told me about girls empowerment program and her upcoming event I just had to make sure I was there to hear all about it.
Africa is such a warm & sweet spirit. I cant believe she remembered me from Blogalicious.
Her Girls with Curls Initiative is about more than natural hair as it also is about promoting sisterhood and friendship among college age girls. She is taking her idea on the road and plans to hit up her hometown of Montgomery, Miami, Charlotte, Chicago, DC, and beyond. The Girls With Curls sister initiative, ‘Be A Girlfriend’ will also include stops at Historically Black Colleges and Universities such as Alabama State, Clark Atlanta University, Florida Memorial, Florida A & M University, Howard and more.
“My initiative “Be a Girlfriend” is so important to me because my personal and professional survival has been largely due to the support I have from my girlfriend circle. My goal for the HBCU tour is to help young women realize the decisions and connections they make can affect the rest of their lives. It will be taking “girl talk” to the next level.”
It was a packed house and some of her reality tv friends also stopped by to show support.
Myx Fusions made sure that everyone had some of their fruity & delicious libations to enjoy and Curls Unleashed had plenty of product samples to share.
I am looking forward to following Africa’s journey with her Girls With Curls Initiative to see how it develops.
