I was more than happy to take part in the Dove Hair #LoveYourCurls campaign.  I have been a soldier in the #NaturalHair movement since 2009 and am very passionate about natural beauty and empowering women to embrace beauty on their own terms.  I’ve made encouraging women to love themselves a big part of my life.  This blog as well as my social networks all reflect it- I want everyone to know that part of self-acceptance is being confident in who you are and making no apology for it.

But Why The Focus on Curls?

For decades mainstream media has given us their own image of what it means to be beautiful and those images are often of women that look like no one in our mirrors.  Long, straight and thin hair has dominated our vision for so long that it caused women like me to head straight for relaxers or weave, thereby hiding our textures and cloaking our hair.  Texture discrimination is real

Curls = Texture

The Natural Hair movement enabled women all over the world to set their curls free and express who they are naturally.  No matter the texture or pattern of our curl it is beautiful and so are you…  Just the way you are. #LoveYourCurls  This curly girl issue does not just affect one race!
