10 Things To Do When You Have Lots of Watermelon

10-things-to-do-when-you-have-lots-of-watermelon

My neighbor showed up with 300+ watermelon and cantaloupe the other day.  I love melons of any kind so I took advantage of this situation immediately.  With so much watermelon suddenly on hand I came up with this list of things to do when you are blessed with lots of watermelon.

First things first…

Get your kids so they can help you grab as many as you can carry!

Get exercise

carrying large melons back and forth is a very strenuous activity!

Laugh hysterically at your great luck!

Question it

Once that excitement wears off and reality hits you, ask yourself, WTF are we going to do with all of this watermelon and cantaloupe?

Share your wealth

Give the watermelons away to family and friends

Eat as much as you can!

Immediately

Add Watermelon to everything

Cocktails, Salads, Infused water, you name it and watermelon will be a good addition

FREEZE It!

Make Watermelon Pops – slice the watermelon into long strips (like freeze pops) and freeze them.  EASY! Its a sweet healthy summertime snack for the kids and it tastes way better then freeze pop!

Juice it/Smoothie It

Cut the watermelon meat into chunks and fill up gallon freezer bags, you can juice it immediately or use the frozen watermelon chunks for cocktails later.  Just add it to any cold drink for fruity flavor.  Try adding it to your smoothie

Whatever you decide to do with your watermelon harvest make sure to remember that watermelon consists of 95% water, very little sugar and loads of vitamins.  It’s a great snack for the kids and a cool refreshing summer treat at ALL times.

What is your favorite watermelon recipe?
